Suicide Prevention and QPR

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college and university students, but it is also one of the most preventable causes of death. Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR), guided by Counseling and Psychological Services staff, is a UCF specific program designed for everyone to learn what can be done to prevent deaths by suicide.

The program goal is to train faculty, staff, students, administrators, parents, and community members in how to effectively recognize and refer persons in distress to campus and community resources. As a result of Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR), you will: be able to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating dying by suicide; be able to explore protective factors that help prevent suicide deaths, and apply the three steps of the QPR with individuals in distress; have the skills to act with confidence to make a difference.

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) is a one hour presentation where you will learn the warning signs of suicide and three basic principles of how to help save a life. It is designed for students, faculty and staff and anyone at UCF. A  session can also be arranged at a convenient time specifically for your group or organization.

QPR is being offered for our community by other providers as well. For more information about free QPR trainings, QPR Training Calendar Community QPR Fall 2023
