Bodhi

Animal Assisted Therapy Dog

Bodhi was born on February 25, 2012 and at 16 weeks of age joined Counseling and Psychological Services with plans to be their first therapy dog. Bodhi was selected because of his wonderful personality. Based on his “puppy temperament testing,” he is outgoing and friendly, and has a flexible temperament that will adjust well to different types of environment. After Bodhi turned one year of age, he took and passed his AKC Canine Good Citizen test, and after he was two years old, he took and passed his therapy dog test. Bodhi and his owner, Valeska Wilson-Cathcart, are a Registered Therapy Dog Team with Therapy Dogs International.

Bodhi is a Havanese which is also known as the Havana silk dog and is said to be Cuba’s only native breed. They are very sociable and with their high degree of intelligence, they are excellent candidates for obedience training. The Havanese is an affectionate, happy and playful dog and has a lively, springy gait. The name Bodhi is traditionally translated into English with the word enlightenment and literally means awakened. It is from the verbal root “to awake, become aware, notice, know, or understand.”

Bodhi’s favorite things to do are to play outside, chase balls, & play with his people friends! He can frequently be seen consulting with his human co-workers or participating at a CAPS outreach event.
