Active Minds

Active Minds is the only organization working to utilize the student voice to change the conversation about mental health on college campuses. By developing and supporting chapters of a student-run mental health awareness, education, and advocacy group on campuses, the organization works to increase students’ awareness of mental health issues, provide information and resources regarding mental health and mental illness, encourage students to seek help as soon as it is needed, and serve as liaison between students and the mental health community.

Through campus-wide events and national programs, Active Minds aims to remove the stigma that surrounds mental health issues, and create a comfortable environment for an open conversation about mental health issues on campuses throughout North America.

The Active Minds Vision

To destigmatize mental health disorders by promoting open, enlightened discussion of mental health; and to create a better life for all who suffer. To capitalize on the energy and dedication of young adults in the fight against the stigma that surrounds mental health disorders, and to educate, enlighten, and empower all young adults to ensure their own mental health before it ever reaches a tragic stage.

The Active Minds at UCF Chapter

Each Active Minds chapter plans campus-wide events that work to change the conversation about mental health. By promoting awareness and education, the organization aims to promote a dialogue around mental health, and create a comfortable environment for open discussion of mental health issues. The mission of each chapter is to:

  1. Increase students’ awareness of mental health issues
  2. Provide information and resources regarding mental health and mental illness
  3. Encourage students to seek help as soon as it is needed
  4. Serve as liaison between students and the mental health community

V-A-R Training

A conversation can be life-changing. Feeling seen and heard can make all the difference in the world. Feeling supported may be exactly what someone needs. It can be challenging, though, to know exactly what to say when someone tells you they are stressed, having a difficult day, or struggling with their mental health.

V-A-R helps us know what to say in those moments. A conversation that includes the elements of Validate, Appreciate, Refer is one that allows you to actively listen to someone you care about and support them in meaningful ways.

Through our provided training, you’ll have the chance to learn how to be there for someone in a moment of need. Sign up using the following link: https://forms.gle/gjM6iVnLMC3RKDiB9
